Key Issues
Kingston is a wonderful community in which to live and work and raise a family.
I will endeavor to continue the efforts that the City of Kingston has undertaken to be a sustainable community, one that embraces progress. As councillor I will be available to you to hear your concerns and ideas and include your voice as we move forward together.
The needs of the Lakeside District and other suburbs must not get lost in the City’s focus on large infrastructure programs.
I will make certain that the infrastructure needs of this District have a prominent voice at the council table.
I will support Council in its efforts with the Economic Development Corporation in regard to the ongoing airport expansion and the development of the deep-water port. Both will result in economic benefits to the city as a whole and to Lakeside District.
Intensification along the lakeshore has resulted in water management and flooding problems. All of this additional development calls for adequate services to support this intensification. I will continue the work that Laura Turner began on this important issue.
Where should I walk?
Too many roads in our District still do not have sidewalks and there are too few bicycle paths. I will encourage the City to expedite this work. The completion of sidewalks and paths should be included in the infrastructure plan.
Many seniors and people on fixed income are struggling to keep up with tax increases. We must continue to analyze our budgets most closely to find savings and efficiencies while recognizing that we must be accountable to our taxpayers.
The City must move quickly to address the scourge of ticks in Lemoine Point and other public parks so that these areas are safe for the public to use. I will make sure that this health concern is front and center.
Expanding business and industry that is consistent with the aims of a sustainable community will allow Kingston to develop and progress while continuing to be the livable city we all enjoy..
