Lakeside Priority:

Significantly increase traffic enforcement and speed reduction measures in Lakeside

After the tragic death of the young Mother Teresa student, I requested and was granted the opportunity to Chair the School Pedestrian Working Group.

In the work of this group we learned a great deal about traffic safety and the challenges that enforcement and traffic calming efforts have.

I am committed to seeing the recommendations of the working group implemented in the term of the next Council. That includes the community safety zones, significantly increased enforcement and assisting school councils to introduce the safe school streets program to their neighbourhood school.

I will be pressing for an expanded police traffic department that is fully dedicated to traffic enforcement and will not be redirected to another task whenever there is a significant policing event in the city, such as Queen’s student disruptions.

As well I will support the implementation of speed enforcement technology such as radar in community safety zones when this comes before Council.
