Lakeside Priority:

Splash pad for Southwest Kingston and expanded park facilities in general

We are beginning to see a full swing in the demographics of our neighbourhoods. When my kids were young in the 90’s there were a lot of young children in the area and as they grew older the neighbourhood did as well.

We are now seeing the return of families with young children and that is such a wonderful thing for our neighbourhood. However, we need to ensure that we have good recreational facilities to support them. We need parks where folks like to gather with age-appropriate equipment, shelter and activities that are both engaging and fun.

Even though we are the district with the most population – along with a burgeoning population of little ones – we still do not have a splashpad or adequate and modern playground equipment.

Our playing fields need better maintenance, and we need to ensure that we have at least some all-weather fields so that our youth can continue to be active in the shoulder seasons.

I will push for the facilities we need – to ensure that this happens I will re-energize the west end caucus, Working together suburban councillors will be able to persuade City Council that the essential infrastructure requirements of the western suburbs – including the provision of excellent recreational facilities for our youth – becomes a priority.
